DMA Support!

Submitted by Tomasz Dominikowski on Thu, 2006-10-12 14:14.

Oh yeah ladies and gentlemen, Robert Szeleney is at it again. USB Support, Printing Support and now a new PATA/SATA driver with DMA Support! There's support for VIA, AMD, Intel and SiS chipsets, more will come. What does it mean? Less CPU usage and a huge speed increase for the supported PATA/SATA controllers, just check the changelog for initial benchmarks.

USB here we come!

Hurray for USB Support!

Well, we're not quite there yet, but we're close. The SkyOS USB Stack only supports UHCI. We will have to wait a while for Robert to implement OHCI/EHCI support. I'm sure many who visit this website know what I'm talking about, those who do not should read Wikipedia.

Bittorrent and SAMBA

After numerous attempts to port many different bittorrent libraries and clients by numerous people it finally happened.

Alan "Coldfirex" Shearer (with a little help of Peter "Darkness" Speybrouck) has ported the CLI version of a Bittorrent client Transmission. After an e-mail to the author and a very small addition the SVN version of this client compiles in SkyOS without any changes.

General rants about build 6132

You might have noticed that we (as in Robert and the alpha team) have pulled another release out.

There's a second update available that fixes important issues, mainly with the Software Store. If you can't obtain it due to the issues (which is likely to happen), then use wget in SkyOS terminal to download it and install it manually by double-clicking on the downloaded package.

What happened to Mono and the TODO list.

Let's take a look at things still to do before another release:

- Driverconfig -> ELF port
- SDL quake / writeable code crash
- Radeon/RTL8193 interrupt sharing hangup
- GDB / Backtrace
- Mozilla crash

There's a good chance that the new build will come without any GTK apps at all. They will come back once the new GTK has been ported.
