Robert is working hard to bring us another cool feature - Registrar. Why yet another service instead of plain old registry? I'm not going to get into details, I'll let Robert explain:
It's insolated, per user and allowes manual configuration using the system manager plugin. A service is just an application with which you can communicate using the desktop communication service. (yeah, you need a service to communicate with a service ;) ). Anyway, a service is isolated in its own address space, can easily be enabled/disabled, doesn't require special linking with your applications and can easily be updated without affecting applications using it. (no re-compilation, ....)

what exactly?
Hmm, so what exactly does this registrar service do?
While the story basicly explains what a service is, it does not really say what the registrar service does. The screenshot shows file-type - programs associations.
Is it a service to use the regisrty in a limited way?

No, there is a seperate registry editor in skyos.
If I'm not mistaken, it's for linking filetypes to the correct application when double clicked on a file.
