installation cd failed to start

after grub startet the kernel the kernel-debugger pops up with following message:
"reason entered the debugger: unable to automount bootdevice ..."

my system:
- asus p5q mainboard
- lg dvd-rom

i compared the burned cd against the md5sum (positive).
i tested several options and controller/drives (pata, ata, usb).
last time i tested with every drive but the internal pata cdrom disconnected.
additionally i deactivated sata in the bios completely.

SkyOS Lock-up.

I've been trying to chase this one down for a while, it has been happening with the past few builds, but I haven't been able to get SkyOS to do it, while I'm in debug mode.

I'm not quite sure what causes it. Maybe the log can help. SkyOS just locks up, doesn't respond to mouse movements, and pressing key's on the keyboard will not get the panel menu to open. ctrl+alt+delete does open the kernel debugger though.

I had been copying a few files to SkyOS using Samba and changing theme files.

in kerneldebugger, type: threadlist

You will probably see that a few processes are waiting for a semaphore writelock, one of them being skygi which is why the gui does not respond.

As far as I know, I never really saw anything in the log hinting at the cause.

I usually have it when doing stuff in 2 terminals at the same time.

ps2 Keyboard stops working during boot

I recently bought some second hand stuff:

amd athlon 2400+
radeon 9600pro
MS6786 motherboard

(usb microsoft intellimouse)

From looking at the debuglog, this should be an almost ideal machine since both onboard USB, sound and network are recognized.

However, I'm having boot issues.

My PS2 keyboard stops working at a certain point during loading of the drivers, making it impossible to enter the username and serial number or even call the kernel debugger.
When using a USB keyboard, it installs fine, but I don't have one that I can borrow for a longer period.

I tried a few different options, like /usb_disable:

debug_amd_mouseps2.txt -> mouse on ps2 port
debug_amd_othermouse.txt ->logitech usb mouse

The logs were captured on linux with dterm, I noticed a few problems with line endings here and there.

This is another log, same problem but I removed the ATI radeon and used the onboard S3 videocard: debug_amd_S3.txt

keybkern.txt is a log when booting with /kbd kernel.sys which is on a ext2 partition.
Grub also contains "module /kernel.sys" so I guess thats kindof a problem since I see it loading that file in the debuglog, or is that not a problem.

Funny thing, in kernel debugger, the keyboard seems to work, but not at for example the loginscreen.

Closing telnet connectin to SkyOS reboots SkyOS

I noticed that when I telnetted into my SkyOS box from Windows, logged in, and then just "X'ed" out of telnet without logging out SkyOS reboots itself. SkyOS also reboots itself if I do logout of telnet.

Alpha 6723.

I was doing this from in the windows that is running skyos in vmware 5.5

not sure if it's related but the debug.txt attached is my log from my telnet sessions. All worked fine then.

I opened a bash window between my 2 telnet sessions.
When I closed bash, it skyos locked up.

I tried killing bash completely with "signal <pid> 9", then I tried to continue but that made it even worse. Now it was completely locked up as I was no longer able to enter the kernel debugger any more. the kdbg was still visible but I couldn't do anything.

SkyOS does not boot (can't find boot device)

SkyOS does not boot, saying it can't find the boot device (or something like that). "If you booted from an usb-cdrom, add this and that..."

The cdrom is a brand new NEC AD-5540A ( http://www.sonynec-optiarc.de/en/exhibits/slim-line-drives/ad-5540a.html [^] ).

Beta10dev1 - stopped booting

After the crash with moving mediacentre's window with a visualisation, I'm unable to boot SkyOS now. It stops at the last icon. Both debug and non-debug grub entry.

NOTE: I am able to boot into safemode just fine.

I have left this virtual snapshot intact, though I can't imagine its use. The only way of booting I found is through the installer on the cd. Then it works.

Same thing happend to me last night. The only things I remember doing before rebooting is I disabled the screensaver service, turned on the samba service (not on bootup), copied over a group of files from Windows, crashed airstrike.app a couple times with alt-f4, and *maybe* changed from the vmware driver to the vesa one (it could have been the reboot before, but I dont remember).

doing configure for pidgin, during the creation of the makefiles, bash did not respond or stopped doing something.

Unable to install 6669 - Freezes

After trying various boot options, including: SafeMode, Standard, DMA-disabled, MTRR-disabled, Radeon-disabled...and even combinations of the above, SkyOS consistantly freezes, preventing install of the build.

Your log ends with something about mttr, could you try adding the bootparameter

/mttr_disable

in grub.
When grub loads type 'e' to edit the grub entry.

Actually, my log ended with something about mtrr, which, as I mentioned in my bug report, I already tried disabling at boot up. Just to be sure that I didn't miss anything, I also did as you suggested and tried disabling mttr, with the same result, a white screen which went nowhere. Thank you nonetheless for being so quick to respond, and I look forward to ANY other tips.

I don't know what's causing your problem, but I noticed that you have a shitload of partitions. Perhaps you could try with a clean harddisk and only 1 cd-drive?

Since you have a ATI radeon, you might be suffering from an issue with the driver which would involve booting with radeon disabled and if booted successfull, try to load the driver manually or keep using the vesa driver.

Yeah, I do have a bunch of partitions, that's for sure, but it hasn't been an issue with previous builds. I've always been able to get SkyOS to play nice with the other 14 OSes I'm testing/playing with. 8^) As mentioned in my initial report, attempting to disable the Radeon had no effect. It was one of the first things I tried, since it had been a problem for me in the past. I'm stymied.

OK, I feel like a doofus...yes, I did try to disable the Radeon(or so I thought), but I passed the wrong command. I had been so used to entering /disable_radeon.dld, that that was the first thing I tried, with /disable_radeon, being the second. It took awhile, but then I started thinking about the swith to ELF...did some more searching in the forums, and found the option /disable_libradeon.so. That did the trick, and I was able to install. I have yet to try enabling the Radeon while SkyOS is running...but I will do that soon, and pass along the results. For now, while I wouldn't entirely call this a resolution to the problem, it is a viable work-around, and so this report could probably be closed in favour of one reporting continuing problems with the Radeon.

Boot hangs during boot when BENQ DVD Burner is connected

SkyOS fails to boot when a BENQ BW-822 DVD Burner is connected.

SkyOS installs fine, but when booting from hard disk with the DVD burner connected. SkyOS fails to boot, unless debug mode is selected.
That's why I did some boots with /debugport=1 without /debug parameter.

First I tried to disable the ACPI, that booted once, but when I retried it didn't boot anymore. The debug log with the /debug looked strange at that drive.
(ATAPI DVD DUAL 8 8 8 8 8 8 8 8 8 8 8 8') The 8 shouldn't be there.

lockup when adding a desktop icon

I tried to add a "services" shortcut on the desktop by right clicking the shortcut in the panel menu.

At the same time, apr was configuring in bash.

Once I clicked the "show on desktop" everything locked up.
After reboot the shortcut was on the desktop.

Tried again but no lockup this time.

Might be related to the lockup with openssl or the one from cody when he presses backspace in bash. So maybe bash issue...

double fault task! Cannot boot from HDD.

I can't really give you a debug log of this, but here's the story:

After I got a crash of the screensaver subsystem (Darknesss will get the debug logs for you), I've rebooted the system and it wouldn't boot anymore due to the unfamous double fault error. I've reinstalled SkyOS on the same partition, it booted just fine after installation. I did nothing, just indexed the partition and rebooted. Bang, double fault. Maybe this due to a SkyFS bug? I can't get you anything more than the usual debug log ending with:

OK Robert, I've discovered some regularity.

1) Double fault happens when booting from HDD.

Panel seems to lockup skyos

I have had many lockups recently, they seemed kind of random but most of the times involved bash seemingly hanging while skyos other windows are still responsive.

clicking the panel however locks everything up.

attached debuglogs contain a 'threadlist' and a backtrace of panel and in one case vci.

Installation CD doesn't boot

When I try to install SkyOS.
It crashed upon boot with the

I have burned the image twice, with verification on,
so I am sure the installation medium can't be the issue.

The PC has a USB mouse. This is a computer at my school.

Looking at the last lines, it seems to me as problems with
the ATA(PI) drivers.

As soon as I can acces this PC again. I will get a hardware list.
And I will try making a new debug log, since it seems to be

Mouse/Keyboard Conflict

When starting the SkyOS install the mouse and keyboard conflict, meaning neither will work. (see this topic for more details http://www.skyos.org/board/viewtopic.php?t=20569) [^]

When booting in debug mode it get's to the sixth icon then freezes with a white banner at the top of the screen, the first six icons, the rest of the screen black (sorry can't grab a screenshot) Debug log attached.

I've added a Gnoppix log just to show how Linux is init'ing the hardware, notice it seems the mouse and keyboard ports use the same I/O addresses but not the same IRQ, at least I think that's what it's saying (not very experienced at low level stuff).

There was absolutely no hardware changes between the log taken with SkyOS and the log taken with Gnoppix.

I seem to have fixed this bug, but I'm not sure how. I changed some BIOS options and it works, but changing them back doens't recreate the problem.

The options I changed were disabling the "System BIOS cachable" and increasing the "DRAM Drive Slew Rating" to Fast. (details of the BIOS settings for my motherboard plus a whole lote more information here: http://p199.ezboard.com/fk7s5amotherboardforumfrm5.showMessage?topicID=1200.topic [^] )

Lockup during shutdown

Running pre alpha 8.6 in vmware on physical disk.

All I did was starting samba, copy libiksemel files to /share, compile it and shutdown.

During shutdown, shutdownwindow was still visible but skyos did not respond anymore. Debuglog started exploding so I killed the virutal machine.

The last lines in the debuglog were repeated endlessly (starting from line 36125)

Booting on a Macbook in Parallels

SkyGI API: Impossible to use EnableWindow function

Using "HRESULT EnableWindow (HANDLE hWnd, char bEnable)" inside C or C++ code won't compile with skygi.h correctly included. Error is: undefined reference to `_EnableWindow'.
After posting this in the developper forum, it was suggested that this should be reported in the bug tracker.

I found that we have the ability to kill the desktop at the login screen using alt-f4 leaving us a with a black screen and only the mouse.

Massive sound stuttering in VMware (possibly very high cpu usage) in SNAP7

All mp3s I start, they play normally for the first two seconds and then start horribly stuttering (this is very similar to stuttering with native installs and Live/Audigy/Audigy2 cards). Same thing happens with welcome and exit sounds. It never happened before in VMware. I have a debug log with skytrackmix.mp3 playing...

ATI Mobility Driver Problem-Blank login screen

I know this bug has been reported in the past, but I couldn't seem to find it by searching. For the last several Beta releases, there has been a problem with the ATI Radeon driver. On Beta 9, I get a blank screen (black) after completing the installation. The installation screens and "module loading" screens are fine, but the login screen is black. I'm sorry to bring this bug up again, but it certainly needs some immediate attention. I'll try to capture the debug log using my serial cable ASAP. Has anyone else experienced this problem? Thanks.

Native 8.5alpha1 installation, system restart at setup!

Limited user able to delete administrators

I logged in as an adminsitrator, created a limited account user, logged in as the limited account, and was able to successfully delete an administrator account. When I selected the administrator account to delete I noticed that it did not update the area that listed its permissions or type of account if this helps.

Task manager can kill system critical services/applications

One can kill any system critical service with the taskmanager,thus rendering the system unuseable:

debug.app,desktop.app,panel.app,appman.app,iss.app - just a few of those who are needed to keep the sytem in a useable state. Log in as any user, start the taskmanager and kill them. The processes are silently removed from the running queue and finished off. The system doesn't hickup but it doesn't work correctly either afterwards.

I suppose those applications should be either non-killable or just restartable - or only kill-able and restart-able by the administrator(superuser)

How about making only those applications killable for a user != superuser, where process->uid == user->uid (killapp-process->uid)?

8.5 LiveCD option doesn't work

I tried to use the liveCD option of skyos as I didn't have space to install it yet and VMware is also not installed yet.

After I click on the link to boot the livecd I get the note saying that some programs like firefox won't work. When I click OK, nothing happens.

If I press NEXT again, i get the note again but still nothing happens.

native boot on laptop without serial port so no debug log,
I could get into the troubleshoot console though and open skypad for example.

Gaim also lost my settings when the application crashed. If I managed to close the application without a crash settings were kept, but following a future crash it lost the settings again.

LiveCD boot fails with Low Memory, wrong amount of RAM detected

Trying to boot the LiveCD on a Dell Dimension XPS R450 (old machine):

Pentium II 450
384mb RAM
3c905 netcard
16gb HD
ATI Rage video card

The serial debug log indicates that only 64mb was detected, and boot fails pretty early with a "Low Memory" panic.

Tried other boot options from the grub menu with no success.

Memtest86+ sees the RAM and tests fine - also Debian and Haiku both see the RAM on this machine fine.

I noticed that grub also was only detecting 64mb, even Debian's grub, even though Debian finds the remaining RAM when it loads.

Processor Exception: Desktop.app

System Lockup when running pkg_config with VCI

I had SkyOS lockup when I right-clicked on pkg_config and told it to open in VCI. VCI opened up and then I saw the cpu usage max out. At this point I was unable to move the mouse.

Debug in Panel.app

Software Store crashes SkyOS on closing

Closing SkyOS Software Store in Offline mode leads to the attached crash.
In Online mode it don't crash.

The IndexFeeder was running in background.

I tried this several times in VMware.

Same thing occurred after the IndexFeeder was done running.

But once VMware stopped the Guest OS with the following error:
*** Virtual machine kernel stack fault (hardware reset) ***

isatty() crashes skyos when passing parameter -1

the function isatty(int fd) seems to crash skyos when fd is -1.

I verified this in linux and linux returns 0 as it should. SkyOS locks up in this case.

This is the reason sshd crashes skyos.

Firefox froze SkyOS and Vmware

I had Firefox open, downloading a file, with a window Terminal open when SkyOS froze mouse and all. No kernel debugger popped up and I realized that Vmware itself, and most of my Windows host was locked up. Upon rebooting I found the debug log blew up with this:

MediaCenter: Goes nonresponsive after streaming media stops

I streamed a song (just 1) using VLC from my PC and listened to it from MediaCenter in SkyOS. Once it was done with that song MediaCenter became non-responsive (buttons wouldn't work) and then eventually debugged.

SkyOS live cd triggers a reboot of host computer when booting skyos in qemu with windows as host os. I didn’t get a debug log and at the moment I am in the middle of something important and don’t want to trigger unnecessary reboots of my computer. If I get chance I will try again on another computer.

Debug of MediaCenter after enabling visualization

I began playing a mp3, enabled a visualization (blurk i think) and then received a debug for mediacenter. MC kept playing and I could move the window around but none of the controls were functional.

Booting with USB flash drive inserted causes libusb.so - UsbHubThread crash

When booting SkyOS on an Acer TravelMate 2410 laptop with a U3 Smart (sandisk chip) USB flash drive inserted, libusb.so crashes at UsbHubThread / 22 and enters the debugger at 10:0011449B.

I can't provide a full report or stack trace at the moment until I can find my null-modem cable, but can provide excerpts if required :)

Strangely, no - it only seems to happen when the USB stack is initialising. Also, it isn't instant... it attempts to load the USB driver for a good 20 seconds before crashing.

P.S. Although the device *is* recognised as a USB disk, it doesn't appear to mount (FAT filesystem, under 1GB) - no error is presented.

Unable to load Themes in System Manager (Refer ID: 0002397)

If you try to run the themes manager the application locks up. Watching Task Manager the available memory went from 800meg memory and rapidly counted down to 6 meg of memory at which point the kernel debugger kicked in and said out of memory. Only option was to hit reset switch as system went bye-bye.

This is the same error as ID 0002397 which you indicated had been fixed in this release.

Running on Core Duo PC with 2 gig of RAM. Skyos only reported 1 gig in Task Manager.

Sorry i have no debug log as i had no system by then.

Crash (no debug) GPF in Panel.app when opening a file with a long filename

I rename a JPG file to have a ridiculously long filename and saved it. When I highlighted the file in Viewer and hit Enter Panel.app supposedly had a GPF. Panel and Viewer were both still working after this.

When closing these windows, skyos lock up when closing the 2nd window.

I have been compiling some stuff in bash but nothing special.

Software Store: Crash debug when selecting to work offline and clicking on "close" icon

workload app hangs, but shows iterations

When opening the workload app, I see a graph, but nothing is drawn. At the top the line with "(1) iterations: 22277102(0). 10 uses" is being refreshed. You can drag the window around, but this results in a window with leftovers from the dragging.
The line with the text is still being refreshed, but I cannot close the application.
I have to use "end process" to kill it.

Kernel Debugger on shutdown: ImageReaper

I received a kernel debugger when shutting down detailing a processor exception concerning ImageReaper. I had just downloaded and installed the Spellchecker service and GTK for the Software store successfully.

openssl installation freezes skyos

Compilation of openssl worked with the attached recipe, but the "make install" script hangs on 2 occasions where there is a process sh_fork with state "waiting for fifoFS read"

pressing ctrl+C in bash removes this process and makes it continue the first time (when installing "man3 PKCS12_create.3") but not the 2nd time (at "installing man3/SSL_get_error.3").

The second time it did remove the sh_fork with the above state, and taskmanager was still updating. Once I click outside bash, skyos completely locks up. All I can do is call kdb.

Happens native and in vmware.

I know this is not related to the above but I noticed in the debuglog:

Index Crash while indexing

ok, can reproduce this. Problem is the libindexfeeder.so library. ls is linked to libsky which is linked to libindexfeeder.so which normally gets loaded from /usr/lib. When executing ls from within the /boot/system/plugins/services directories libindexfeeder.so gets loaded from this directory, which unforunately it is different library not exporting the required symbols.

Workaround: Will rename the libindexfeeder.so in the build scripts.

I ran thunderbird after first install of the os, while the index feeder was doing its first indexing. system crashed.
the same crash appeared when I played mp3s from a fat partition, and I think system manager was also opened.
but the error message told me:

kernel crash + unable to boot skyos

I used softwarestore with darkness's repository, trying to download iks-em-el
then, the whole system crashed. (perhaps if his nickname was brightness things would've looked different ;-)
I then rebooted but the system could not load. perhaps skyfs got corrupted? I don't know, but I couldn't boot repeatedly, even in safe mode.

attached are several pictures of the screen. it always gets stuck in skygi.
how can I debug this (save logs) if I cannot access skyos?
what commands can give more relevant information for you to fix?
(in a few days I will reinstall from cd, so tell me if you need more information)

just an update, I reinstalled skyos and everything works perfectly.
in the crash information I saw alot of bfs_inode and locks so I suspect it was a problem in the obfs port but I couldn't get a debug log, sorry.
if the images are not helpful and you can't find the location where the bug happened, then I guess this bug report can be closed.

profiler crash, perhaps due to vmwareservice

I was using the profiler on the viewer. When I wanted wanted to stop profiling, I moved the mouse outside the vmware window to see if vmware service would show up in the profiler.

The profiler crashed instantly.

System freeze after closing Task Manager with Software Store open

I wasn't doing anything out of the ordinary. I had the software store open and connected online. I then opened up task manager, resized it to show Heap, and then closed task manager. After this SkyOS completely froze (mouse too), and the Vmware process took all of my cpu. I didn't notice much in the debug log.

Debug of Viewer with multiple Query tabs open

I had Viewer debug while I had a number of Tabs open. I open the about 7 Audio query tabs, 1 video, and at least 1 image query tab. When I open the image query tab the memory and cpu usage shot up a great deal. I also noticed that in task manager that each query tab process (viewer.appQueryViewThread) were all using the same amount of Heap memory as Viewer.app. So I had about 12 processes each listed as using 37.33mb each. Shouldn't these be independent?

I had the viewer crashing suddenly for no apparent reason.

skyos was running in vmware for a while, doing nothing. skyos had focus (not windows). The only thing I did at the time of the crash was replace the batteries of my wireless mouse because they were running out.

open tabs were /boot/programs and queries for Images and audio

SkyPad Open-File Dialog Browsing and Resizing

Skypad crashes when clicking on a sub-directory name, rather than the folder icon.

Trying to resize the open-file dialog causes a crash and freezes the display. When hitting ALT-TAB, the display freeze disappears, but moving the cursor shows a garbled outline of the open-file dialog following it. It will stop when you click "no" on the debug request dialog.

Thumbnail View Weirdness

In the viewer. I had thumbnail view enabled.

Bug #1: I deleted a file. The file deleted, and all the thumbnail previews had to load again. This should not happen.

Bug 0000002: While the thumbnails were loading, I clicked on one of the files that still had the generic "image" icon. When viewer got done changing all the image icons to thumbnail previews, it went back to the beginning and started re-loading them again. I did the same thing again before it could load them all, and after it finished loading, it went back to the beginning again and started loading the images again. This time I did not click, I just let it load. It got through about 5 images, and viewer closed, and the notification window popped up and said "Application Crashed".

This was on a hardware install, not VMWare.

Debug crash in viewer.app_search_search_query after cancelling a search

I received a crash debug on viewer.app_search_search_query when I began a search for txt files, clicked the red X button on the bottom of the window (because I wanted it to stop searching), and then clicked the exit icon on the top right of the window.

This happend again but this time I performed a search for Skypad, got the results, deleted the skypad query completely, re-entered the query skypad and hit enter. Partiallly through the search I received a debug/pagefault.

Viewer Crash - Recursive NULL Exception

I received a debug crash in Viewer stating a Recursive NULL exception. I had copied 2 files to my shared directories through from my Windows XP box and then open Viewer to goto the location of these files when it popped up. After I typed 'report all' into the debugger, I saw another screen for Viewer that said Processor Exception.

SkyOS LiveCD fails to boot, "unable to automount bootdevice".

Simple enough, I insert the liveCD, boot from it, see some booting messages and briefly the screen with icons, then I get the kernel debugger saying "unable to automount bootdevice". In debug mode I dont get the screen nor debugger but it hangs still.

Btw, my Windows XP installation CDs fail to boot also, that's why I even tried the SkyOS cd. ;)

Crashes to black screen just before reaching login screen

I installed SkyOS to the second partition on my 3rd hard drive. Had a bit of a problem when I finished installing because SkyOS detects the hard drive layout properly, but my BIOS changes the drive order depending on which I boot from. So I have to change the "root" line in grub from "hd(3,1)" to "hd(0,1)" to make it boot. It starts booting fine, but when it should go to the login screen I get a black screen + total lockup.

PageFault in desktop.app_PreviewLoader

I had a pagefault in desktop.app_PreviewLoader when I right-clicked on the desktop, selected run, browsed a few directories, and then highlighted (I believe) an image file. The only way I noticed it had faulted was due to the notification area. After this I was able to move the Open window around but couldn't click on any of its buttons or use the desktop itself.

2 applications crashed with same error

Hi, I encounter a recurring error:
this happened from ld, and from software store. I don't see a relation between the two.
gdb shows me this error:
solib-svr4.c:1319: internal-error: svr4_fetch_link_map_offsets: Assertion `ops->fetch_link_map_offsets' failed.
at that point, it says that gdb has met with an internal error, and the data will be unreliable.
if i continue,
backtrace shows 0x08065608 in ?? ()
I did a memory dump of a range that contains that address, but I don't know if its valueable.
any more things I should try?

low memory situations

I ran into some low memory situations, even though I have more than 1GB of ram.
one was when waiting for a directory to load that had thousands of files inside.
(by the way, it didn't update the view as it was loading, and just seemed unresponsive, and I wasn't sure it even accepted the command to enter to this dir)
This was in Storage Viewer.
another instance was when Find window returned about the same amount of files.
it seems wrong that a window displaying files would take more than 800MB.
(could these crashes be related to my hardware or some strange virtual memory setting? because I find it hard to believe you didn't notice something this obvious)

In TaskManager:
skypad.app - Heap size is 7.87MB, stack 24k - State is stuck on Semaphore memory (3E69C298)
I'm not sure it's stuck. perhaps it is iterating the files or doing something, but that's what is shown.

from the open window, it crashed or froze.
(information was sent via internet from notifier)

registrar also seems to not free memory, and grows the heap size pretty fast.

SkyOS doesn't boot (vesa problems)

SkyOS doesn't boot. It stops when it can't set a graphics mode.
The graphics card is a S3 Trio64V+. It should support at least vesa 1.2 and the mentioned resolutions (below) with no problems.

As you can see this graphic card doesn't support any linear (VESA2) graphic mode.

(If you say it's not a bug it probably isn't, but I had to reopen it to add a note.)

That card uses those resolution with no problems with the linux xorg vesa driver and with Xvesa. So I don't understand why it wouldn't work in SkyOS.

MediaCenter: Crash debug when trying to play a certain video file

Under Build 5550 I no longer receive a crash dump but I see that there was a notification in the notification panel. MediaCenter is still usable and actually says its playing the file.

ISS crash when trying to play wmv file

I was playing some videos on my fat partition and when trying to play a wmv file, ISS crashed.

Upon further investigation of the files giving problems, these seem to be encoded with:
audio codec: windows media 9.1 or windows media 9
video codec: windows media 9

files from windows media 7 or 8 are working

so I suppose it is just because the format is not supported

VMware 6.0rc2 crashes with a NOT IMPLEMENTED error during boot from the CD. Not sure if it is a genuine VMware bug or one that just happens to pop up with skyos.

vmware.log has not too much information, but this one seems important:

Looks like you are booting the current alpha I uploaded a few days ago, which unfortunately is not in a working state yet (I'm in the middle of implementing the freebsd compatibility layer). This issues will be fixed with the next alpha (weekend). In the meantime, try adding this kernel boot paramteres:

kernel /kernel.sys /disable_libbge.so /disable_lible.so

This should allow you to boot into SkyOS. Once booted simple delete this two files when you installed SkyOS to the harddisk.

mysqld crash - pthread issue

mysql client application works fine but the daemon for running the server does not.

not sure what goes wrong but mysql_pthread task crashes.

install mysql package
start server:

/usr/local/libexec/mysqld --user=admin

or something like that, not sure if file location is correct

I had 3 different mp3s playing along with a video looping. After a while I got a crash debug for 'iss.app ISSFlusher'.
I had to manually kill all the ISS processes to shutdown.

Something horrible happened at first boot in snap6

I don't know what, but I've started index feeder as usual, opened Viewer, discovered the new Home button, clicked some other view types and then everything went SO SLOW. I couldn't do anything, everything was very delayed. Debug was 4.3mb so I tarred it up.

General protection fault during compilation with factory

I was compiling apr with factory and all seemed to go well.
I left but when I came back I had the kernel debugger in front of me and the log says

General Protection Fault (pthread) : System Halt when closing instance of Transmission

I downloaded the source for Transmission (http://download.m0k.org/transmission/files/Transmission-0.6.1.tar.gz), [^] extracted, and compiled (had to add 'skyos' to line 277 in the configure file - Thanks Darkness). Transmission worked correctly. I had 2 instances of it running and downloading torrents when I canceled one (with ctrl-c, which I had done a couple times already to end an instance) and received the system halt screen mentioning pthreads.
Build 6132 w/ 08-06-2006 update. Debug log attached.

I had another GPF when closing Transmission again, but this time the GPF referenced netqeue as the cause.

Since the new release seems to have problems even starting the download on SkyOS currently you will have to goto a previous version. I couldn't find the SVN builds leading up to 0.70 anymore so you will need to use 0.6.1 and add SkyOS into the config file to get it to compile.

Hard Freeze (no gui at least) when attempting to logout

I had went into System Manager - Services and stopped and started a few services (file and sharing, weather, and application manager). I then closed System Manager and clicked to logout (attempting to regain some memory from panel) but then the mouse and all froze.

Samba crash and system halt on shutdown

I noticed a huge amount of lines like this in the debuglog:

* past 1 file there
* shutdown skyos

shutdown started very slow, then suddenly kernel debugger: system halted:

Also, when I was copying a lot of small files to skyos using samba, the debuglog reached 10MB and more only due to those smbd_fork_fork lines. Samba transfers also seemed slow.

MediaCenter: Crash after closing and opening a video file to play

I opened a video file, let it play for a little, closed it, reopened it, closed it, and then opened it 1 more time. I then received a crash debug.

Debug during install of Heroes of Roswell game

During the installation of 'Heroes of Roswell' from the Game Store I received a debug popup concerning indexfeeder.app. After this I was able to click finish on the installer for the game. SkyOS Build 6669 wont boot with KVM switch

I have a KVM switch that enables kb+mouse via USB for two desktops. Whenever I tried installing SkyOS build 6669 with the KVM switch in place, I kept getting hangs and freezes even before installing it. Once I removed the KVM switch it installed fine.

Freeze after changing IP address

I had SkyOS set to a static IP already. I went in again and changed to a different IP address, hit apply and the close System Manager. After this SkyOS froze with Vmware consuming my CPU. Had to force close in VMware.

VMware 5.5 on WinXP PRo

Page Fault in Viewer halted system

I had Viewer open (with Transmission minimized and compiling a dnstracer in background) and closed it. After closing it the white debugger(?) popped up and halted the system blaming a page fault concerning Viewer.

System freeze after opening and closing skypad and bash

I performed a search for bash files, and began opening a few (having to search for skypad to open them as they did not have extensions). After this I opened bash, performed a ls, and then closed it. Here the system froze completely.

During Installation startup - SkyOS was not able to find '/boot/...setup.app' on the mounted boot device

I've launched The installer from CD, it gets to the clock icon, then the kernel panics
debug startup shows the error:

I've recorded all the output from kernel and ATA log (zipped up) on my webserver for you to download (it's 25mb worth of images from a 5mpixel cam!)

This is running on an IBM R40e Laptop. On other O/S's I mainly have problems with ACPI (IBM have a very strange implementation for the CPU scaling on this BIOS. linux, for example, made a work around in the kernel and just disabled CPU scaling), but I can't say I've ever had problems with my IDE devices. I also rewrote and verified the disc image. I've also installed SkyOS into vmware so I know it should work.

I would be very interested to know if you could fix this bug or not, as I would really like to run SkyOS on the above laptop, but I do understand you are a busy lot ;)

Unable to reproduce and debug log not available anymore. Maybe this got fixed with the new ATA driver, the debug log would have told us.

I had the indexfeeder crashing when indexing

I think first time (snapshot 2) I had the httpd sources (apache2.2.0) on the disk.
With snapshot 3, I was copying the files to skyos with samba with the indexfeeder running.

Robert said it crashed when reading an incomplete icon, perhaps it's a bad icon included with httpd.

Firefox: Crash to kernel debugger while browing the Internet

I had Firefox crash me to the kernel debugger window. I was browsing around (betanews.com, techreport.com, wellsfargo.com, and microsoft.com(well, trying at least)) when the crash occurred.

I had SkyOS crash to the kernel debugger again. I am not positive this was due to FF since I did have FF open, but I was away from SkyOS (it was sitting idle) when this happend.

Under Biuld 5550 I had FF just close when I was right-clicking on a link to open it in a new tab. The kernel debugger did *not* open. I think this might be related since in the debug log it stated "56: Task: firefox-bin.app Address: 51002000. Write access to read only page..." like the other logs.

Ability to kill desktop.app from task manager

I noticed that the user has the ability to kill desktop.app from task manager. Once done only the mouse is functional (moving at least). I clicked around for a while and got the system halted whitescreen. Maybe if you want the ability to kill desktop.app that it restarts the desktop automatically with your programs and all still open (like explorer in Windws)?

You already get a warning when you try to kill desktop.app. It requires quite a few steps from the user to actually kill the desktop, so I don't think something like a autorestart system is really required here.
